A Post from Mr. Smith -- Math Competitions

ESUMS plans to offer two Math competitions to interested students. Each competition has participants nationwide and has the potential to earn students recognition and awards.

AMC: The American Mathematics Competition is held by the nation’s two largest professional mathematics organizations. The AMC 10 can be taken by students in grades 10 and below. It covers topics from Algebra and Geometry. The AMC 12 can be taken by any ESUMS student and covers topics up through Precalculus.
Students who do very well on these tests can qualify for the AIME (American Invitation Mathematics Examination). Exceptional performance on the AIME can land a student a spot on the USAMO team (United States of America Mathematical Olympiad).
AMC 10/12 will be offered on February 25th this year. The test is 25 questions and 75 minutes in length. Spots are limited for the AMC competition.

MathCON:  A competition for student 5-12. All ESUMS students are welcome to participate. Testing will be in February. There will be multiple chances for students to take the test (given online) during the month. The plan presently is to offer testing after school on Thursdays (5th, 12th, and 26th) and hopefully during the day once or twice during the month.
Tests are judged by grade. Students who perform well on this test may be invited to sit for the second round in Chicago, IL. The top 30 scorers at each grade level receive awards.
The MathCON first round test is 40 question and 40 minutes in length.

Students (or parents of students) who are interested are encouraged to contact Mr. Smith by email
