Field Day

Middle School Field Day this year is scheduled for Tuesday, June 2 (Rain Date June 4) at UNH Charger Gymnasium, 300 Boston Post Road, West Haven. The purpose of this email is to ask that you help however you can to make this the best day possible for the students. Outlined below is the schedule for the day, along with suggestions for possible parental involvement.
Please contact Jeanne Pennella (Jeanne.pennella@new-haven.k12.ct.us), Cathy Berni (esumspto@gmail.com) or Bob Ennis (Robert.ennis@kofc.org) and let them know how you can help. As always, thank you for any assistance you can provide.
One change from previous years: rather than having teams designated by different color shirts (Red Team, Blue Team, etc., this year all students are being encouraged to purchase a Field Day T-shirt and wear that to Field Day. Here’s the schedule for the day:
8:00 am Two parents needed to pick up the snacks, water, cups and water jugs from the ESUMS office and transport them to the UNH Gym.
8:00 am One parent needed to pick up ice at the New Haven District Kitchen and transport to the UNH Gym.
8:30 am Six to eight parents needed to set up tables, snacks and water stations.
10:00 am Student buses arrive from ESUMS. Total of eight to ten parents needed to man the snack and water stations (including re-filling the water jugs), distribute lunch, etc.
12:00 Lunch served
1:00 Field Day concludes. Student buses depart for ESUMS. Parent volunteers complete any necessary clean-up. One or two parent needed to transport the water jugs and any other miscellaneous items back to ESUMS.
As you can see, ten to twelve parent volunteers should be sufficient, and there will be ample parking at the UNH Gym for all volunteers. The other area where support is needed, as always, is donations. Healthy snacks (nothing containing nuts please), gallons of water (to initially fill the water jugs and keep them full throughout the day) and six ounce cups are needed for the 275 students who will participate.
One final point: the ESUMS PTO has budgeted money to purchase lunch for the students. Last year we did Subway sandwiches, and that is a possibility for this year as well. However, if anyone knows of a sandwich shop or caterer who might be willing to provide lunch, such a donation would be happily accepted. I’m not sure we’d be able to provide much in the way of on-site signage to recognize such a donation, but we would happily communicate to the entire ESUMS community the name and address of that very generous business.
Thanks again to all ESUMS families. Working together, we can surely make Field Day a great experience for all students.
Sincerely,
The ESUMS Middle School Field Day Committee
