Deadline -- New Haven Promise

Important Final Reminder: The Class of 2017 application deadline for New Haven Promise and Passport To Promise is upon us. Students must have completed all requirements, including ensuring parent authorization if they are not 18 years old. Those applying for Passport must also have submitted a 300-word essay and information regarding their recommender by the deadline (Fri., Jan. 27, midnight). That deadline will not be extended.

PROGRAM BENEFITS INCLUDE:
Tiered tuition scholarships up to a total of $25,000
  • $2,500—freshmen and sophomores academic years
  • $5,000—juniors and seniors academic years

  • A $5,000 internship stipend for a STEM-related project

Two proposed bills for parents of Special Education students to know about:

AN ACT SHIFTING THE BURDEN OF PROOF IN SPECIAL EDUCATION HEARINGS To shift the burden of proof to parents in special education hearings.

AN ACT CONCERNING THE SPECIAL EDUCATION HEARING PROCESS to restrict the length of special education hearings to a maximum of three days, and establish policies and procedures for standards of practice for such hearings, including, but not limited to, procedures to ensure consistency among hearing officers, an oversight mechanism for supervisory review, consistency of rulings and logic of decisions, and standards for advocates and outside evaluators.
