Those Late Buses
On the first day of school, some afternoon bus routes took much longer than expected. Channel 8 news came to the school to report on the problem. The video has interviews with some ESUMS parents. Hopefully, all of the bus troubles will be solved soon.

Board of Aldermen Education Meeting Tomorrow
The Education Committee of the New Haven Board of Aldermen will meet tomorrow evening, Tuesday, August 27, at 6 pm at 165 Church Street in New Haven.
The agenda for the meeting says "workshop with Superintendent Garth Harries." It's not clear whether the funding for the new ESUMS building will be discussed or if it would help in any way to have parents there, but anyone interested can certainly attend and participate in this open public meeting.

New Haven Chinese Language School
The New Haven Chinese Language School will be offering lessons to all levels on Sunday afternoons, beginning September 8. There is a charge for the semester, but it is pretty reasonable for the time and effort they give the students.
If many ESUMS students and parents are interested, the NHCLS has offered to establish an after-school session at our school for convenience.

Hot Vegetarian Lunches at Amistad Academy
Amistad Academy will offer hot vegetarian lunch this year, instead of asking vegetarian students to rely on cold salad most days. Can ESUMS make this change?

Uh - oh. It would be silly to lose the 95% reimbursement from the state. If you're a resident, you can call or write your alderman. Email addresses and phone numbers here: http://www.cityofnewhaven.com/aldermen/index.asp

Nice Article about ESUMS CAPT Scores

Computers for Families
Concepts for Adaptive Learning (http://www.eachchildlearns.org/welcome/) refurbishes used computers from businesses and universities and gives them -- along with training, a printer, and a year's internet subscription -- to New Haven public school families who cannot otherwise afford to purchase technology. This might also be a great opportunity for student volunteers.
