Important Message from Guidance about Tracking Community Service Hours

Hello Students!
All community service hours must now be documented in a website called servo.city.  If you have already put community service hours into x2vol in Naviance, those hours have transferred over to servo.city.  Ask your counselor if you need assistance!

High School Students Reporting Community Service Hours

One of our PTO parents has drafted this reporting form for high school students to document their community service hours.  It does not replace the students' obligation to log in to x2vol to record those hours with powerschool.  Students must have 40 volunteer hours to graduate.

Second-Hand Uniform Exchange

Parents, there are free hand-me-down uniform pieces available in the teachers' room.  The collection is a bit of a mess, and we are looking for high school student volunteers to clean it up and organize it. In the meantime, feel free to look through the piles to find anything that might fit your child.  And don't forget to donate your past uniforms -- we particularly need larger high-school sizes.  Thanks!

Thank You Spring Cleaning Team!

The Spring Cleaning event was a great success.  5 parents and about 50 students worked for two hours making small repairs and cleaning everything in sight.  We didn't get to everything, but we significantly improved things and had a lot of fun!

April 8 -- ESUMS Community Spring Cleaning

Let's get together after school on April 8th to spring-clean our school building and improve our students' learning environment!

Meet at the school at 2:00.  Please bring some cleaning supplies.

We will be able to attempt some small repairs (e.g., put hook locks on bathroom stall doors), so if you are handy, bring your tools.

Students will get volunteer hours for helping out.    Teachers can send requests for cleaning priorities to the PTO -- esumspto@gmail.com.

We can work together to care for our students, teachers, and the place where they spend so much time!

Student Volunteers Needed for Robotics Competition on Saturday

The VEX Robotics competition at UNH on Saturday is looking for ESUMS students volunteers.

Below is a flyer for the event. Here is information for volunteers.

Interested ESUMS students can contact Alec Andrulat at robotics@newhaven.edu for details.  Students will check in with Alec when they arrive at UNH.

They can arrive at The David Beckerman Recreation Center (marked on the attached map) on the main campus on Friday, 2/12 from 3:00pm-8pm to help with setup. They do not need to be there the whole time.

Staff will be there from 3:00pm to 8:00 PM to work on setup.

In addition we need help 7:30 AM to 5 PM on  Saturday, 2/13/16. They can take shifts or come for all or part of the time. Friday is most important time for helping us and will allow the team to compete and volunteer.

Volunteer Opportunity -- Youth Court

http://www.projectyouthcourt.org/get-involved/

There are many ways to get involved, which range from acting as a juror, bailiff, or clerk to arguing the side of the defendant or prosecutor as a youth attorney. Each role plays a different but key role in the courthouse. All high school volunteers will be trained by a professional attorney and will have access to older mentors who have gone through our program. The Project Youth Court team will email you with more information about volunteer training after you have submitted the form.

Make Your Walkathon Donation Online at esumsnh.net

Our donation link is active: click on ESUMS Stores, and then WALK-A-THON FUNDRAISER 2015.2016.  You can choose your amount and get your child credit for participating.

Remember that our goal is 100% participation, and students who do not participate at all may later be limited in attending some events sponsored by the Walkathon.  Of course, you can always send your donation in the envelope provided to your child at school; they will be collected from homerooms on Sept. 28.

Also consider some of the great projects the PTO has been asked to help fund this year through the Walkathon:  field trips, classroom magazines, club activities, teacher training, field day, Expo, art supplies, the college tour, and more.  Your donation goes directly to help academic programs, student experiences, and school culture.

ESUMS Launches Writing Center

esumsnh.net
We are proud to announce the opening of the ESUMS Writing Center. Our tutors are working in conjunction with University of New Haven. They have been trained by the Director of the Writing Center at UNH (Dr. Mary Isbell) and are excited to work with our students, grades 6-12, on improving all aspects of their writing.  If you are interested in utilizing the ESUMS Writing Center, or would like to refer a student, please contact Ms. Robinson or any of the tutors listed below.
