Hooray!

Unanimous YES from the Board of Aldermen!

Oh rats.  That was only the Finance & Education Committees.  The entire board votes November 18.

  1. Three questions if you know: Do we know when the full board plans to vote on this?
Can we organize a presence at the meeting?
Can families who live outside of New Haven/West Haven attend these meetings?

  2. The full board should meet Nov. 18, and absolutely anyone can attend and have a chance for public comment. They do ask for your street address and give more weight to comments from residents. We've been willing to organize a parent presence, but we wouldn't want it to distract from the arguments. I guess at some meeting, several parents showed up to talk about how great the school is, when the board members only wanted to hear about budget numbers. So, we don't want to be annoying. At this last small hearing, only one parent and one student -- both residents -- talked about the school, and that was effective. But it was nice to have a group of families just sitting in the pews as a show of support.
