Tech Class is Raising Funds for a Camera

Hi Friends,
I want to make sure my students have the materials they need to succeed, so I created a request for my classroom at DonorsChoose.org:  Social Responsibility: Action Through Videography
My project is halfway to being completed and needs a little love. If you chip in to help my students, you'll get awesome photos and our heartfelt thanks.
Thanks so much,  Leon Tynes
P.S. If you know anyone who may want to help my classroom, please pass this along!

International Festival of Arts & Ideas Student Fellowships

The International Festival of Arts & Ideas is excited to be recruiting for our 2015 Fellowship Program. We are looking to choose 10 New Haven students to participate in a semester long after school seminar, one day a week, up until the Festival in June where they will be immersed in Festival events. Students will write about, discuss, and experience many different types of art. They also will learn about how non-profit organizations like the IFAI put together hundreds of performances in one town for a jam packed two week experience. Fellowship Students will be able to experience 30+ Festival events for FREE. At the end of the Fellowship Program students who have fulfilled their duties as a fellow will receive a $500 stipend and will have made countless connections with the Festival’s professional staff, Board of Directors, and the many artists who grace New Haven for two weeks every year!

Students must be in 10th or 11th grade and must be eligible for free or reduced lunch.

Point-In-Time Count Volunteers Needed (Regional Alliance to Prevent & End Homelessness)

Greater New Haven Opening Doors Needs Your Help!

On Wednesday, January 28, 2015 (inclement weather date is Thurs, Jan. 29th) from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m., Greater New Haven Opening Doors will be leading community volunteers from across the region in The Annual Point-In-Time (PIT) Count of the region's homeless. This count is very important because it provides needed data for federal and state funding used to house and maintain stable housing for our region's homeless. Volunteers will be assigned to a 4 person team for a 3 hour shift (7:00-10:00 pm) to walk and/or drive around in designated New Haven neighborhoods administering the PIT “Street” Count survey to individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Each volunteer team will be led by a knowledgeable homelessness service provider. All volunteers must attend a 1 hour orientation (5:30-6:30 pm the night of the PIT Count) to learn about a volunteer’s basic duties, the point-in-time count method, how to approach an individual, and how to obtain necessary information for the count. The PIT Count volunteer orientation will be held at First Presbyterian Church in New Haven in the Owens Community Building., 704 Whitney Avenue. To join us as a volunteer to administer the PIT Count survey on Wed. Jan. 28, 2015, from 5:30-10:30 pm sign-up below or contact Jan McCray at jmccray@uwgnh.org or (203) 691-4216 for more information.
