Are you concerned about the current state of New Haven's public schools? Do you want to have a say as to the future of our schools? Then join us for a Community Conversation at Fair Haven Library on Thursday, October 15th. This event, hosted by New Haven Educators' Collective, is for students, families, educators, community members, and supporters of New Haven's public schools. Pizza will be served at 5PM and the conversation will begin at 5:30PM. Child care will be provided, upon request, until the event's end at 7PM.
We will discuss the day to day issues in our schools, such as class sizes, cuts in arts and other elective opportunities, punitive discipline practices & alternatives to them, culturally relevant curriculum & instruction, high-stakes testing, and other concerns you all bring to the table. We will also consider larger scale questions, such as who controls the decisions made about our schools, local & national education reform & privatization, budget cuts, NHPS Board of Education leadership, and more!
Come to listen and let your voice be heard, come to organize and build our New Haven Educators Collective community! We need the decision-making about our schools to be made by the people most directly affected by those decisions--come and be part of this community-based leadership!
