Oct. 31 Scholarship Due Date: A Message From Guidance

Once again the Horatio Alger Scholarship is open for applications.  The scholarship rewards students who possess the character to succeed in life . It helps seniors overcome the financial barriers of pursuing higher education. To qualify the senior should have at least a 2.0 GPA and require financial assistance (less than $55,000 adjusted gross income) to go to college. APPLICATION DEADLINE IS OCTOBER 31st, 2016.

Award Amounts:
 
The Horatio Alger National Scholarship is awarded in the amount of $20,000 to over 100 high school seniors with at least one Scholar represented in each state, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.
 
Horatio Alger State scholarships are generally in the amount of $5,000 and are awarded to nearly 1,000 students across the country. To view the number of state scholarships available in your state go to https://www.horatioalger.org/scholarships/sp.cfm and click on your state (CT)
 
Eligibility Requirements:
To be considered eligible for Horatio Alger National and State Scholarship Programs, applicants must:
¨       Be enrolled full-time as a high school senior in the United States, progressing normally toward graduation in spring/summer of 2017 with plans to enter a college in the United States no later than the fall following graduation
¨       Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree at an accredited non-profit public or private institution in the United States (students may start their studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution)
¨       Demonstrate critical financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income is required)
¨       Be involved in co-curricular and community service activities
¨       Display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity
¨       Maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0
¨       Be a United States citizen
