Student Volunteer Hours on MLK Day

The Peabody could use your help.

We are only 9 days away from our 19th Annual Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Legacy of Social and Environmental Justice event and we still need to fill many volunteer spots on Monday, January 19. Below you will find the list showing the details of what we still need help with. If something is crossed out, it means we are all set for volunteers in that area.
If volunteers are able to come for the full day, we encourage them to do so, but even one assignment for a few hours is helpful. Keep in mind that we need able-bodied individuals for the clean-up crew in particular.
Truly, it all helps since we really do need ‘all hands on deck’ for this extensive two-day event – one of the biggest of the year for the museum.
Help needed for MONDAY, JANUARY 19

· Peabody on the Road (POTR)— STILL NEED 1 volunteer for noon-2pm Natural History Kit— Assignments for our trained Museum POTR volunteers should be made through the volunteer office for Museum events (not through Elizabeth at POTR). (3 volunteers each shift--must already be trained for POTR)
· Point Person - Storytelling--Held at the New Haven Museum— STILL NEED 1 volunteer 11:30-3:30 pm. Make public announcements when storytelling at the New Haven Museum is about to begin. Gather visitors and walk them down to the NHM (about 1 block away). Assist storyteller at the New Haven museum with microphone, speaker, and projector, keep area quiet during performance & assist audience. Return to Peabody and pick up next group for storytelling. Return stools to carrier after last story session. (2 volunteers)

· Visitor Counter— STILL NEED 2 volunteers for 2 to 4pm to count adults and children with a clicker as they enter or leave the building. (2 volunteers each shift)
· Greeter— STILL NEED 1 volunteer for 10am-1:30pm, and 1 volunteer for 1:30-3:30pm. 10:00-1:30 or 1:30-3:30 to welcome people to the Museum & hand out programs. (2 volunteers each shift)

· Information Team— STILL NEED 1 volunteer for morning shift, and 3 volunteers for afternoon shift. 10:00-1:30pm OR 1:30 to 4:00pm. Circulate and answer guests’ questions as they arise (i.e. bathrooms, location of galleries, what events are happening when/where, etc.). (3 volunteers each shift)

· Floater— STILL NEED 1 to 2 volunteers for each shift. 10am-Noon or Noon-2:00pm or 2:00pm-4pm. Flexible, preferably experienced, volunteers with knowledge of the museum, needed to act as floaters/runners. Pitch in where needed; check in with Josue periodically; run supplies to different parts of the museum. May be asked to photograph event. (2 to 3 volunteers)

· Discovery Room—STILL NEED 4 volunteers: 1 volunteer from 10-1PM, 3 volunteers needed from 1-5PM. Greet visitors as they come into the Discovery Room, encourage them to open drawers to view and examine specimens. Help to control amount of people in the room at any one time.
· CLEAN UP CREW—STILL NEED 9 volunteers. 4 to 5pm.

Thanks so much for being willing to consider helping out. Let me know if you have any questions, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
