A message from New Haven Public Schools:
At this time, we are asking for each high school to identify a Student Election Representative. This individual can be any staff member in your school, regardless of their affiliation with student council, and will be my primary contact and an in-house resource for information regarding the elections. Please send me the name of your school’s Student Election Representative as soon as possible, so I can schedule a preliminary meeting with them to answer frequently asked questions.
I look forward to working with all of you, as we celebrate the power of student voice and student engagement in School Change. As always, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. I have included some highlights from the attached documents below.
Eligibility Information
· 2015 interested candidates must be (1) a resident of New Haven, (2) a rising junior or senior, and (3) enrolled in a New Haven public high school, including charter schools.
· All New Haven public high school students, regardless of residency and grade level, are eligible to sign petitions and vote.
Timeline
· Thursday, April 9th: Petitions available in the Superintendent’s Office (54 Meadow Street, 5th fl) from 10am-5pm Monday through Friday
· Friday, May 1st: Information about the campaign and election process will be announced no later than 5/1
· Thursday, May 7th: Petitions must be turned in to the Superintendent’s Office by 4pm
· Friday, May 8th – Wednesday, June 3rd: Citywide campaigning period
· Thursday, June 4th: Elections at all New Haven high schools, including charters
