We are excited to share that we have extended the application deadline to June 30th. In addition, we now have scholarships available to cover the full $895 program fee for up to ten girls per week.

ESUMS 7th Grader Aiman Anuar Wins MathCounts Countdown Round

Aiman was the winner of the countdown round during the Mathcounts Outreach competition held at Yale University on May 2,2017.  The Engineering and Science University Magnet School (ESUMS) won 2nd place team.

The competition consisted of several written components that challenge individual students and teams to solve complex, multi-step problems with and without the aid of a calculator. The top students then participate in the Countdown Round, a fast-paced, one-on-one oral competition similar to “Jeopardy.”  This competition is open only to middle school students grade 6, 7 & 8 from the New Haven Public School (NHPS) system, but top performers go on to represent New Haven at the state level.

Panel Discussion: Do Red-Lining and Race Affect School Funding?

The answer is yes.

When it comes to Connecticut’s education funding formula, there are often more questions than answers, and a lot of these questions deal with race and economics. If you are looking for a space to ask questions about racial disparities in funding and work with teachers and local experts to find solutions, you should come to our next education panel on Tuesday, May 30.

Join E4E for a panel entitled "Unequal Opportunity: The Racial Crisis with School Funding."

Come for a panel discussion with other educators and experts in housing, education, and funding.

Panelists:
Billy Johnson, Director of Instruction, New Haven Public Schools
Karen DuBois-Walton, Executive Director, New Haven Housing Authority
Genevieve Walker, Director of Programs, Connecticut Center for Arts and Technology

This provocative conversation about the racial disparities in inequitable school funding is sure to be informative and engaging. So bring your questions and thoughts to this discussion with leaders in education and learn about the effort to forge a more equitable future for your students.

See you there,
