Board of Education Meeting

The New Haven Board of Education will hold a Special Meeting at 5:30 on 2-2-15 to approve the Action Items that were previously scheduled for the meeting of January 26, 2015 which was cancelled due to poor weather conditions. CRISP High School Research Fellowship
The Center for Research on Interface Structure and Phenomena (CRISP) is taking applications from Juniors and Seniors for its summer program. The materials science program is free and offers the student a $500 stipend. Applications are due April 1; students must be 16 years or older. Details here.

What: Sprout is a three-week program held on Saturdays. Classes will be offered in four time blocks. Core classes meet all three weeks of the program and electives meet just once. Report Card Conference Details
Thursday, January 29 from 4:30 - 5 p.m. parents can come to the school to pick up report cards only.
If you wish to visit your child’s teachers and classrooms you can do so between 5 & 7 p.m. Teachers will meet
with parents on a first-come-first-served basis with a 3 minute discussion limit.
If you need to meet longer we ask that you schedule at time with your child’s teacher(s) to discuss grades.

Google Summer & Scholarship Programs
Computer Science Summer Institute (CSSI) is a three-week introduction to computer science for graduating high school seniors with a passion for technology—especially students from historically underrepresented groups in the field.
The Generation Google Scholarship for high school seniors helps aspiring computer scientists excel in technology and become leaders in the field. Selected students will receive 10,000 USD (for those studying in the US) or 5,000 CAD (for those studying in Canada) for the 2015-2016 school year. as part of the scholarship, current high school seniors who are entering their first year of university in 2015-2016 will be required to attend CSSI in the summer of 2015.

Youth At Work
Youth at Work Application for Summer 2015 will be due April 2.
The Summer Work Based Learning Experience program is intended to provide early work experiences for young people ages
14-21 that may not otherwise have this opportunity. There are limited opportunities available, therefore please make note:
completing this application does not guarantee a work experience through the program. Job placement is by a lottery system.

Free Practice SAT in Westport on Martin Luther King Day

The ESUMS chapter of the National Honors Society would like to announce to its fellow pupils that on Monday, January 12th, ESUMS will be holding a "Reading Day" to benefit its students. Throughout the day, there will be various study sessions focusing on either particular subjects or on general study skills. These sessions are meant to help you with preparing for midterms and/or with any general subject matter from your classes. Students who are interested can sign up for sessions in the morning in the cafeteria, but more importantly, they must also get permission from whichever teacher they are supposed to be with during the respective period.

All the Details on Next Week's Midterms
Greetings ESUMS families
Every day next week, January 12 - 16 all students will be dismissed from ESUMS due to high school mid term exams. All students will be dismissed at 11:30 and there will be no after school programs scheduled for the week unless you are contacted by the teacher. A few teachers may choose to keep their programs on the schedule which would require students to be picked up between 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. depending on the program.
Please be sure you help your child's success by encouraging and supporting good eating and sleep habits.
The following is the high school mid term exam schedule:
7:45 - 9:30 the first exam will be given
9:40 - 11:25 the second exam will be given.
Students will not be allowed to enter the classroom late so please be sure to have all students at school by 7:30 each day. We thank you for your support and wish each and every child success as we end the second semester.
